Siebel and BI Publisher With LDAP/ADSI

A while ago we were asked to introduce Active Directory authentication into a Siebel 8.1 and BI Publisher 10g implementation. Enabling Siebel on ADSI is straightforward – the fundamentals haven’t really changed in the last ten years – but we were curious to find out whether there were any issues in getting BI Publisher up and running with Siebel on ADSI, and indeed whether – once we had it up and running – there would be any limitations on functionality.

In last week’s posting, I outlined some of the key considerations for implementing a SOA-based architecture, and explained how support for SOA could in part be achieved by considering the functional granularity of the Web Services exposed through Siebel.

This post moves on from that, covering Service Abstraction and Loose Coupling with the context of Siebel, completing the core considerations to be taken into account when exposing Siebel Web Services in a SOA environment.

Over the last six years we’ve seen more and more companies implementing SOA-based architectures and including Siebel within them. With Siebel’s support for Web Services now more than seven years old – and still evolving – it is considered an application that provides straightforward support for SOA.

Siebel ADM

Nowadays we regularly use Siebel Application Deployment Manager (ADM) on client sites to help them to deploy Siebel configuration to Test and Production envionments. It's fair to say that ADM is huge leap forward in terms of managing what was previously a cumbersome, time-consuming and error-prone process. Though ADM has been part of Siebel since 7.7, Siebel 8 brought with it a vastly improved architecture, improving both stability and usability.

Our new site is live

After a long time on the previous site format, we're happy to announce that our new site is now live. It is based on the Drupal CMS, which gives us far more flexibility to quickly create the content we'd like to show, and display it in a way that makes it easy for our customers to access.

The previous Siebel blog posts will be migrated over time.
